Position Title: Advocacy & Data Coordinator
Reports To: Vice President - Research & Advocacy

Position Summary

The Advocacy & Data Coordinator will create member resources and communication strategies for Destination International’s most pressing advocacy and data projects. This will include strategic initiatives of the association as well as assisting with members’ reaction to an immediate crisis. In many cases, work will be focused on building resources that do not yet exist.

Roles and Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Aid in research, on-going advocacy efforts, coalition building and the development of fact sheets, action alerts and other advocacy materials to address association or member priority areas.
• Aid in the tracking of legislation and issues worldwide and reporting on their status including analyses of movement and possible adoption.
• Aid in the development of web-based advocacy tools, templates, and resources.
• Participate in industry lobby days at federal and state/province level.
• On-going and crisis related member outreach efforts by assisting them with action planning, information collection, new releases, and other communications work.
• Gather relevant news stories, social media postings and issue research. This may include the opportunity to produce advocacy related white papers and opinion editorials.
• Assist in the writing of blog posts as well as coordinating and reviewing guest blog posts by destination experts.

This position is generally considered entry level within the organization and thus looking for an individual with the following desired skillsets:

• Data and database management

• Group/departmental project completion record

Work Environment

Due to the current pandemic, current position would remain remote for the foreseeable future with adjustments as needed.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role with extended time sitting at a desk and working on a computer. On site events and registration would require extended periods of standing and walking.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Office hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm evening and weekend work or participation in events that occur after hours or attendance at events and conferences is expected.

Travel Expectation

This position may require up to 15% travel time outside of the office.
