The successful candidate will contribute to the success of the GNCVB’s mission and adheres to its core ideology by developing and implementing marketing/communication brand strategies that increase the positive visibility, recognition and knowledge of Newark destination assets in order to increase room sales of Newark hotels in both the long and short term. Responsible for developing an annual plan for approval and providing quarterly updates for/to same.
Scope of Work; (Marketing) • Responsible for content management of destination website, and secondary sites or landing pages • Defining and communicate compelling reasons to stay and explore the region, seeking to increasing overnight visitation and per capita spending in the city. • Create and implement a strategic marketing plan which targets key demographics maximizing impact across multiple media platforms. • Ensure that all materials produced on behalf of the GNCVB adhere to brand guidelines. • Generate positive media coverage on Newark as a premier domestic and international leisure, meetings and sports destination, while increasing the quality and quantity of print, broadcast and online coverage. • Engage in building strong relationships with regional marketing directors, print, radio and online media to help build credibility and brand loyalty in the community. • Expand the scope of the destination brand strategy through additional online marketing campaigns and video productions. • Implement a variety of tactics using social networking and video content marketing to position Newark competitively among its peer destinations. • Improve web traffic through innovative ads, creative programming and inspirational/engaging content on newarkhappening.com. • Develop, sustain and increase NJ State grant support for GNCVB marketing/media outreach • Promote positive impact of tourism through public awareness initiatives, press releases and oped pieces detailing travel data specific to Newark and the NYC market. • Develop a local connectors’ network of travel writers to pitch “original/urban” travel articles to state, regional and national publications. • Promote area attractions and events to visitors. • Pursue qualified travel media to visit the destination on individual visits or during a planned Media FAM or group press trip. • Create destination features and pitch stories creating positive buzz to publications and websites, especially travel related media, encouraging positive articles about the Greater Newark region. • Develops/implements media marketing strategies (plans/objectives/outcomes) targeting business growth for GNCVB hotels for overnight stays to the city. • Monitor the blogosphere and guest blog for the destination on travel related media outlets. • Collaboratively develop the communications tools needed to sell the destination, its assets, attractions and events to the overnight market, brochures, videos, tours and itineraries, profile sheets, press kits, etc. • Work with the GNCVB team to recognize internal and external communication opportunities and solutions. • Manage content generations for GNCVB website, secondary sites or landing pages, monthly email newsletter, eblast announcements, social media, etc. • Create and implement a strategic advertising plan which targets key demographics maximizing impact across multiple media platforms. • Support/develop grant and award applications, community presentations and other duties as assigned in the pursuit of GNCVB goals and objectives. • Maintain a client and customer database (CRM) and relationships as it relates to media contacts, local marketing contacts and travel industry marketing contacts (writers, partners, vendors, etc.). • Work directly with stakeholders and assets of the region to offer visitor’s exclusive deals and discounts to encourage visitation and the length of stay.
SCOPE OF WORK: (Sales)
Oversee the sales department on group sales, meetings and conventions leads.
Attend industry tradeshows as needed
Facilitate bi-monthly area hotel Director of Sales meetings
Reporting: • Prepares monthly and quarterly tracking reports from CRM (Simpleview) and other sources. • Review analytics, track, measure and adjust all campaigns, and provide the organization and its stakeholders with detailed year over year ROI reports. • Produce documentation and reports for the board as needed, manage award applications, grant applications, and community presentations.
Required Experience: • A minimum of 3 years of professional sales, marketing and/or public relations experience. • Excellent verbal, writing and proofreading skills is a Must. • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with internal departments and external partners at multiple levels. • Knowledge/Experience in the travel/tourism is preferred.
• Knowledge/experience working in the Northeast/NYC market is preferred.
The Greater Newark Convention & Visitors Bureau is the official destination marketing organization for the City of Newark, New Jersey. The (GNCVB) is a private 501(c) (6) New Jersey non-profit corporation, funded by Newark hotels through a Tourism Improvement District and is the primary programmatic arm for Newark’s travel and tourism industry.
Our goal is to create economic growth and incre...ase visitor spending by developing and implementing comprehensive destination marketing programs to create economic growth, local jobs and advance tourism in the city. We do so by:
• Increasing the number of overnight visitors staying at Newark’s hotels;
• Increasing the length of the average overnight stay;
• Increasing per capita spending by hotel guests at Newark’s restaurants and attractions.
Mission: The Greater Newark Convention & Visitors bureau is charged with promoting and marketing the assets of the region to increase our overall length of stay at area hotels, increase per capita spending in the tourism sector, as well as attracting new events, meetings and conferences to the region.
