Choose Chicago is the official sales and marketing organization responsible for promoting Chicago as a global visitor destination to business and leisure travelers.
This position will be located either on West Coast or Chicago, IL. The Director, Convention Corporate Sales position is a key, aggressive sales position at Choose Chicago. This position will carry a high production goal, in a very demanding and competitive marketplace. This position is responsible for business development and growing market share with large scale corporations.
We are looking for a high level sales leader, someone who is respected by peers and customers. This position will require consultative and strategic sales mastery in creating awareness, driving interest and closing business for the city of Chicago and McCormick Place. The market is specific large scale corporate located west of Mississippi River and Texas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for growing and managing new and existing large convention accounts on the West Coast. The industry segment is specific to large corporate events and meetings as well as development of the intermediary relationships that influence buying decisions.
Individual must have strong consultative sales skills in order to create demand in segment.
Individual will develop a professional annual business/market plan, maintain and close business for the destination and McCormick Place.
Candidate will possess working knowledge of corporate events and meetings and knowledgeable on trends affecting our industry and key industry segments.
Develop and maintain a high profile at all assigned industry events and trade shows. Current and past leadership positions within industry associations is a plus.
Experience working in committee & competitive work environment
Working knowledge of all exhibit facilities and hotel capabilities in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Increase market share, maximize productivity and opportunities through development and increasing meeting rotation; ability and interest to understand overall business scope of customers how this translates into our marketplace.
Working knowledge of all competing convention cities and all trade show and convention facilities.
Develop, share and promote sales benefits and enhancements which promote competitive distinctness of Chicago and McCormick Place.
Comply with established policies and guidelines applying Bureau operations and employee conduct.
Develop feasible short and long-term plans and strategies for achieving department goals and objectives; anticipate critical obstacles and issues.
Schedule work activities to ensure that deadlines are met and goals are achieved in a timely manner.
On own initiative or as assigned, assist with, and participate in, Bureau projects, functions and special events.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelors degree preferred or equivalent experience
Seven (7) to ten (10) years of related DMO, Center, Trade Show or Hotel experience showing progressive growth and learning and/or training equal to the skill level needed to perform this position
Prior experience in the West Coast hospitality, convention bureau or corporate group sales industry required.
Must have experience and contacts within the large corporate meetings market.
Proven knowledge of sales market, communications and negotiation techniques and strategies.
Proven track record in managing clients from assigned market.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must be technologically proficient.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with a strong knowledge of spelling, grammar and punctuation
Must be able to speak publicly and give presentations to organizations, board of directors and community groups.
Ability to represent Choose Chicago in a professional manner while interfacing with internal and external clients; excellent telephone skills.
Knowledge of the City of Chicago, including hotels, attractions, restaurants, and shopping desirable.
Must possess good organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Ability to travel by air or ground transportation as required.
Must be willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time.
Ability to perform computer work for extended periods of time.
